About This Constellation ShortList™
Any relational database management system that’s available as software can be run on premises or in private clouds. Software can also be deployed and run on cloud infrastructure services, but that approach doesn’t deliver the same agility, simplicity and administrative savings as database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offerings.
This Constellation ShortList presents Constellation’s pick of relational database management systems (RDBMSs) that are available both as software and as database services across multiple public clouds. The combination gives you the best advantages of cloud computing while avoiding lock-in and fostering hybrid-deployment and cloud portability. There have been no vendor-selection changes to this Constellation ShortList since its publication in Q1 2018.
Constellation considers the following criteria for these solutions:
- Available as software for on-premises or hybrid-cloud deployment
- Available as a cloud service on multiple major public clouds
- Cloud services are supported by the cloud provider or RDBMS software provider
- Database software provider supports its own cloud service, offering service guarantees and a single source for support
