Nigel Cameron

Nigel Cameron founded the Washington, DC think tank the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies (C-PET) in 2007; since the fall of 2017 he has been President Emeritus. He is also technology/futures editor of UnHerd.com, a UK-based venture-funded site focused in challenging conventional wisdom. Prior to C-PET, he served as Associate Dean and a Research Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he established the first U.S. university-based center on the social and policy impact of nanotechnology. From 2006-2017 he was a Commissioner of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, and chair of its Committee on Social and Human Sciences. In 2016 he was Fulbright Visiting Chair in Science and Society at the University of Ottawa (Canada).
Cameron has written widely on the impact of emerging technologies. His most recent book is Will Robots Take Your Job? A Plea for Consensus (Polity/Wiley). Speaking engagements have included the Aspen Ideas Festival, the Aspen Health Forum, the World Healthcare Innovation Conference, the Economist Asia Investor Summit (Hong Kong) and conference on the Digital Economy (Madrid), the STARS conference for emerging leaders (Stein-am-Rhein, Switzerland), UBS visiting scholar residencies/colloquia (Wolfsburg, Switzerland), and the Champalimaud Foundation conference on the world in 100 years (Lisbon). He also serves as a conference chair, including at the Forum Internet of Things and Connected Cars Summits in Washington, DC and Brussels; GITEX and the Future Tech conference (Dubai); and the European Identity and Cloud Conference (Munich).
He holds degrees from the University of Cambridge (BA, MA), the University of Edinburgh (PhD), and the Edinburgh Business School (MBA).
