Derek Slater is the head of policy strategy and campaigns for Google Fiber and Alphabet's Access initiatives. He works with the business to develop, advocate for, and implement public policies that can help bring ultrafast Internet access to more people. 

Prior to joining Fiber full time, Derek spent 8 years on Google Inc's policy strategy team, where he was the global lead for media and telecommunications policy. Along with shaping the company's policies around copyright and net neutrality, he developed the grassroots organizing platform Google Take Action, and worked with Vint Cerf to launch Measurement Lab, an open platform for Internet measurement tools,

Derek has been writing about digital media since he bought a Diamond Rio PMP300 MP3 player as a teenager. His work has focused on how public policy can support emerging media business models and novel ways to drive broadband deployment.
