James is a proven business and technology leader with more than 25 years’ experience leading global Fortune 100 technology organizations across the insurance, telecommunications and banking industries. He has direct experience in scaling global technology, incubating new technology and matching investments with maturity to drive value.
As Global Chief Information Officer at Liberty Mutual, he leads the digital technology transformation, directing a global team of 10,000. James spearheads the technology to support industry-leading growth through digital transformation, process simplification, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Most recently, James directed the technology M&A for three multi-billion-dollar acquisitions.
He is chairman of Liberty IT, a subsidiary of Liberty Mutual Insurance, with offices in Belfast and Dublin. James serves on the Board of the Rian Immigrant Center, Boston’s welcome center for 3,500 immigrants and refugees from more than 120 countries every year. He holds bachelor and master’s degrees in engineering from the National University of Ireland and has completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
