Diane Comer is executive vice president and chief information and technology officer for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals. In this role, Comer is responsible for the ongoing leadership of Kaiser Permanente’s information technology vision, strategy, and execution.

As CITO, Comer leads a team of more than 6,000 employees, designing and implementing technical solutions with a focus on improving overall quality and return on investment, while also reducing costs. Comer also drives the introduction of new digital technologies that improve access to care in a member and patient-centered environment. She reports directly to Kaiser Permanente’s chair and chief executive officer and is a member of the National Executive Team and the CEO Executive Committee.  

Comer previously led Kaiser Permanente’s Health Plan IT organization, delivering technology solutions supporting all marketing, sales, service, and administration functions. Comer has built a reputation for driving transformational programs across Kaiser Permanente. She led the implementation of the technology systems needed to support the Affordable Care Act and health insurance exchanges for Kaiser Permanente, in addition to the delivery of a nationwide claims platform, a telephony system which now supports a million calls a month to our multiple contact centers – among the highest call volume in the nation, and technology solutions for regulatory initiatives such as ICD-10.

Comer joined Kaiser Permanente in 2007, bringing extensive leadership experience in application development, project management, enterprise architecture, IT strategy, and data center management. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, she held positions at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, including chief technology officer. Her responsibilities included application development and maintenance, and management of infrastructure and data center services.

Comer holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Additionally, Comer has attended executive leadership programs at the Wharton School and Harvard University. She is a 2012 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders Award winner.
