Mark Browning is a 28-year veteran of the energy industry and joined Exelon (ComEd) in 1989. Mark has held numerous roles at Exelon since that time, including Enterprise Architect, IT Director of Large Utility Projects, IT Director Utility Solutions, and VP of IT for ComEd. In his current role as Vice President IT and CIO Exelon Utilities, Mark’s focus is to drive IT standardization, collaboration, efficiency and consistency within the utilities for higher performance – identifying best practices that all of the Exelon utilities can leverage. This focus extends to all areas, including operations, project delivery and longer-term strategic IT planning. Mark earned his bachelor’s degree in Math and Computer Science from the University of Illinois. His work experience spans from Smart Grid / Smart Meter, Real-Time Systems including and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and Energy Management Systems (EMS), Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), NERC CIP / Utility Cyber Security, Workforce Mobility, Customer Billing and Customer engagement channels, Enterprise Architecture, and IT strategy. Mark’s industry involvement includes participation on the DistribuTECH Advisory Board, Electric Light & Power Executive Conference Board, and the Energy Central Knowledge Summit Advisory Board. Mark has also participated in a number of Utility Industry Standards Setting initiatives including the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Utility Communication Architecture (UCA), EPRI Maintenance Management Workstation (MMW), EPRI CCAPI (IEC Common Information Model - CIM) and Smart Grid Technologies and Solutions.
