Why Salesforce Headless 360 matters

Published April 15, 2026

Salesforce launched Salesforce Headless 360 in a move that makes its entire platform available via APIs, Model Context Protocol and CLI commands for humans and AI agents. The move means you won’t have to log into Salesforce to use its applications and services. It’s also a move that is likely to be replicated by other SaaS vendors.

The company outlined Salesforce Headless 360 in a blog. Since Salesforce established Agentforce and made a play for categories outside of CRM, the ongoing knock on the plan has been that customers are still locked-into a platform and user interface. With the launch of Slackbot, Salesforce moved toward a strategy that decoupled the user interface from the workflows, context and data used by AI agents. Salesforce Headless 360 is the next installment in becoming a platform that can be used without an interface.

As everything Anthropic launches continues to freak out the SaaS market as well as Wall Street, going headless is likely to be critical. SaaS vendors will need to create platforms that can deliver revenue models based on consumption and ride along with multiple agentic interfaces.

Constellation Research analyst Holger Mueller said:

“Salesforce moves its agentic AI offerings forward by focusing on what enterprises need to be successful with agentic AI. More access to the transactional backends - ideally via MCP but APIs will do - with Salesforce Headless 360, will help build agent code with Agentforce Vibes 2.0. The Agentforce Experience Layer provides visibility. The combination of advancements puts Salesforce Agentforce squarely one to two years ahead of its peers in building agents. Salesforce has managed to maintain its lead from the launch of Agentforce at Dreamforce 2024."

Key points about Salesforce Headless 360 include:

  • MCP tools and coding skills that give outside coding agents access.
  • An experience layer that provides native interactions across multiple environments such as Slack to voice and WhatsApp. Agentforce Experience Layer is a UI service that separates what an agent does from how it appears. Agents can deliver experiences within multiple environments.
  • New tools that govern how AI agents work in production.
  • Salesforce has added more than 60 new MCP tools and more than 30 preconfigured coding skills.
  • Salesforce Headless 360 provides live access to data, workflows and business logic in tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI's Codex and Windsurf.
  • Agentforce Vibes 2.0 provides context to multiple models from OpenAI, Anthropic and others.

Going forward, the thing to watch is how Salesforce Headless 360 is used by the LLM ecosystem and third-party agents. Salesforce’s headless plans may be the first step in figuring out how SaaS companies and the LLM giants comingle.
