Hello,Your friendly neighboring analyst (who apparently never writes anything anymore). I had to dust off the cobwebs for this one… I had such a busy day with calls and messages and emails and such – I figured it was a good time to break the streak and write something. First off, won’t comment on the price… OK, maybe just one tiny one. One of the people who was in the team who setup the Yammer deal (the one that was done for $1.2 billion, ‘member?) called me today to get my thoughts… This person was very happy because they no longer own the title of worst buy at Microsoft… <rim shot>
You might have heard: Microsoft is buying LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in one of the most significant enterprise software acquisitions in some time. There will be plenty more to parse about the deal in coming months, but here are five key, immediate takeways about what it means.
This morning Microsoft announced they are acquiring LinkedIn for $26.2B. Microsoft is one of the largest providers of business and productivity software and LinkedIn is one of the largest professional networks. The combination of the two, bringing LinkedIn data and connections (social graph) to Office365 and Dynamics could have major impacts on personal productivity, team collaboration, social selling, human resources, marketing and customer experience. Here are my thoughts on what this deal means for daily users and developers.
On June 6, Slack added the ability to place voice calls directly from Slack, without needing to add a 3rd party integration. 1:1 calls are available to everyone, and team calls of up to 15 people are available for paid plans. Walmart's story of reinvention has been unfolding over the past couple years, and recent financial results show that it's still a company to watch. In April, I mentioned that Walmart's CEO, Doug McMillon, had been revamping this established retailer in How To Become a Reinventor Like Walmart's CEO. He's been doubling down on Walmart's digital efforts among other key initiatives, and it looks like that choice is paying off, although he clearly has some ground to cover before Walmart shows that it's taking a serious run against Amazon, one of America's most popular digital darlings.CEO McMillon's hard-fought reinvention shows progress, according to the latest first quarter financial results where Walmart is up 16% this year. Find out what McMillon shared yesterday in his video interview with CNN Money, Walmart Investors Are Smiling Once Again, where he talked about what his team's doing to focus on learning, listening to the customer, and being inventive.
