ServiceNow launches AI Passport to ride along with Nvidia's Open Agent Safety Platform
ServiceNow said it is updating its AI Control Tower with AI Passport, which gives governance, integration and oversight using the company's AI harness.
The effort builds on Nvidia's Open Agent Safety Platform initiative, which aims to put deterministic controls on AI agents to keep them from running amok.
Not surprisingly, Nvidia is ServiceNow's launch partner for AI Passport. ServiceNow described AI Passport as a "new authority layer" that gives enterprises runtime control over what AI agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are authorized to do in workflows.
At Nvidia GTC Berlin, ServiceNow will outline how AI Passport and Nvidia’s Open Agent Safety Platform go together.
ServiceNow is looking to use AI Control Tower to give AI agents structure. AI Passport is a cryptographically signed credential that verifies and governs AI agents. AI agents can work freely within their passport scope, but if it drifts it can be redirected, restricted or turned off.
According to ServiceNow, AI Passport is built on open specifications so third-parties can issue their own credentials.
In addition, ServiceNow expanded the remit for AI Control Tower to autonomously remediate AI agents and give enterprises a kill switch. ServiceNow also added the following to AI Control Tower:
- Shadow AI detection.
- Cost governance tools.
- Value intelligence that tracks consumption, cost quality and value.
- AI cost management as part of IT Asset Management.
- Policy enforcement end to end.
Jon Sigler, executive vice president and general manager, AI Platform at ServiceNow, said visibility into AI agents isn’t enough. “Enterprises need confidence that every AI agent is operating within its authorized scope,” said Sigler, who added that authority, governance and operational oversight are needed to scale AI agents.
ServiceNow said AI Passport, shadow AI detection and AI Cost Management will be available in the fourth quarter.

These controls will come in handy since ServiceNow separately announced the third-generation of its EmployeeWorks AI harness that enables employees to build and customize agents without code.
ServiceNow also announced ToolSmith, an agentic developer environment that sites within ServiceNow EmployeeWorks. The company said EmployeeWorks will get the following:
- Productivity Assistants, which are specialized AI assistants for contextual and persona-based work.
- Productivity Assistants built for HR service delivery and focused on talent insights, case management and management assistants.
- Research Analyst is an out-of-the-box assistant that can be used across EmployeeWorks and customized.
- Calendar Assistant serves as a smart scheduler.
The EmployeeWorks AI agent additions are in controlled availability.
