AI Dominates the Boardroom Agenda, and Organizations Must Realign Resources To Benefit
Senior executives and policy wonks seek to understand how artificial intelligence (AI) will transform businesses, societies, and economies. Advancements in cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile, 5G, 3D printing, and blockchain technologies defined the Internet Age. With mass digitization of the physical world, organizations could unlock data from silos, cut across functional fiefdoms via business processes, and deliver user experiences in both digital and physical formats. Although many leading authorities sought to define some of these advancements as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution of digitization, these technologies represented derivatives of the Internet Age. Meanwhile, the arrival of technologies such as spatial computing, robotics, AI, and quantum computing represents a distinct new era known as the AI Age (see Figure 1).
