Snowflake: Cortex Code, Semantic View Autopilot GA

Snowflake said that Cortex Code and Semantic View Autopilot are generally available. The company also rolled out enhancements to Snowflake Postgres. 

The news comes a day after Snowflake outlined a $200 million partnership with OpenAI. 

Cortex Code is a data-native coding agent that can automate development and maintain context from enterprise data. Cortex Code is paired up with Semantic View Autopilot, which automates the creation and governance of semantic views and gives AI agents an understanding of business metrics. 

Christian Kleinerman, EVP of Product at Snowflake, said the company is looking to embed AI-ready data directly into enterprise app development.

Here's a look at the details of the launches.

Cortex Code understands users' Snowflake data, compute, governance and operational semantics. Key points:

• The tool is designed to be accessible to various experts regardless of technical expertise to build data pipelines, analytics and AI apps. 
• Cortex Code is customizable and interoperable with various Snowflake and developer environments. 
• Teams can use Cortex Code within Snowflake through Cortex Code in Snowsight, which will be generally available soon, or within code editors or Cursor with Cortex Code CLI.
• Enhanced Snowflake Notebooks are integrated directly with Cortex Code. 
• Braze, Decile, dentsu, FYUL, LendingTree, Shelter Mutual Insurance, TextNow, United Rentals and WHOOP were cited as Cortex Code customers.

Semantic View Autopilot is an AI service designed to continuously learn from user activity to ensure business logic is accurate and up to date. Key points include:

• The autopilot aims to minimize AI hallucinations and cut the time needed for semantic model creation. 
• Semantic View Autopilot provides automates business context for AI systems and agents. Typically, business metrics are manually defined and inconsistent. 
• The system can keep business logic up to date across data tools including dbt Labs, Google Cloud’s Looker, Sigma and ThoughtSpot.
• Semantic View Autopilot can continuously maintain the intelligence of Open Semantic Interchange connections. 

As for the Snowflake Postgres enhancements, the breakdown goes like this:

• Snowflake Postgres runs natively on Snowflake AI Data Cloud to enable the consolidation of transactional, analytical and AI use cases.. 
• A set of extensions are available to integrate Snowflake Postgres into lakehouses grounded in Apache Iceberg. 
• Snowflake Postgres will be generally available soon.
