Meta launches Meta Enterprise Platform led by CJ Desai
Meta is taking another swing at the enterprise. The company launched Meta Enterprise Platform in move that will aim to replicate the success of Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. CJ Desai stepped down as CEO of MongoDB to lead the Meta enterprise push.
A consumer company moving to the enterprise has been pulled off before. Amazon launched Amazon Web Services and Google launched Google Cloud to chuckles only to become a major hyperscaler. Today, OpenAI is trying to court enterprises even though it is seen as a consumer-first company.
Meta's bet is that it can leverage its success with its Muse AI agent and resurgence with open models into the enterprise. Meta dabbled with the enterprise with Meta Horizons Workroom and Workplace, two efforts that were shut down. Enterprises were also into Meta’s Llama models before the company revamped its AI lab.
What's changed is that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has to justify its massive capital expenditures and monetize its AI efforts. Meta’s models and AI efforts appear to be gaining traction.

The details behind Meta Enterprise Platform are thin. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said:
"Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses. Initially, we will focus on bringing our full technology stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more to businesses and developers to help them grow."
Desai will be Chief Enterprise Platform Officer reporting to Zuckerberg. The Meta news landed a day before MongoDB's investor day in New York. Desai said: "Meta has a unique role to play because it is bringing together advanced models and leading agents with a proven track record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale. Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses."
A few observations:
- Details about Meta Enterprise Platform are sparse so it’s hard for enterprises to even think about kicking the tires.
- We’ll await a broader strategy session about cloud instances, models and go-to-market plans. It’s hard to believe that there is much of a strategy since Desai was rehearsing for MongoDB’s investor day in New York just a few days ago.
- One thing is certain: Meta Enterprise Platform will take a long time to bake. It took Google Cloud a decade to hit its stride. It takes time to build an ecosystem, partnerships and to understand what you need to deliver to the enterprise. Meta will need to court developers and move up the AI buying stack.
