Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 5

Anthropic launched Claude Sonnet 5, which delivers performance close to Opus 4.8 but at a lower cost.

The rollout of Claude Sonnet 5 comes just as enterprises are more closely scrutinizing performance and AI costs. Anthropic also called Sonnet 5 its "most agentic Sonnet model yet."

Claude Sonnet 5 is a big improvement over Sonnet 4.6 for everyday work.

Anthropic's launch of Sonnet 5 comes as the company remains in limbo with the US government over Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Anthropic has made some progress, but for the most part its powerhouse models remain on the sidelines.

Claude Sonnet 5 is available for an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through Aug. 31. After Aug. 31, prices move to the standard $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.

According to Anthropic, Claude Sonnet 5 is available across all plans and the default model for Free and Pro plans. The new models is available to Max, Teams and Enterprise users and on Claude Code and Claude Platform.
