IonQ ups 2026 outlook with SkyWater, launches Superion quantum platform

IonQ raised its outlook including the now-completed SkyWater acquisition and launched its Superion quantum computing platform that can be upgraded to scale.

The news landed ahead of IonQ's investor day, which will now include SkyWater. IonQ acquired chip foundry SkyWater in a move that will give the company a manufacturing base for quantum processors as well as other chips. IonQ has said SkyWater will continue be a neutral fab serving other customers including quantum computing players.

IonQ projected 2026 revenue of $450 million to $460 million including SkyWater. The outlook also eliminates intercompany revenue from previous commercial agreements between IonQ and SkyWater.

The company also outlined its sixth-generation quantum computing family starting with IonQ Superion 256. The system uses processors manufactured by SkyWater.

According to IonQ, Superion's key points are the following:

• IonQ Superion 256 is the first in a platform that future systems will be built on.
• The company has trapped the first ions in prototype Superion 256 systems being parallel at multiple facilities in the US.
• The 256-qubit quantum processing units went through six tape-outs in the first half of 2026 with SkyWater.
• Superion 256 features IonQ's Electronic Qubit Control (EQC), which controls trapped-ion qubits with electronics integrated on the chip instead of laser systems.
• The system is built for standard server racks and data centers and draws less power than a rack of GPUs.
• IonQ is taking orders for Superion 256 with deliveries expected in 2027.

IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi said Superion is the product of the integration of multiple acquisitions including Oxford Ionics and SkyWater. "Quantum computing, like classical computing before it, ultimately scales most powerfully on a semiconductor foundation. Superion 256 is the first quantum computer platform designed to be built by the hundreds rather than one at a time. Every generation that follows will be designed, fabricated, and packaged similarly," he said.

The plan for IonQ is to expand Superion 256 to millions of qubits. IonQ said Superion 10K is underway and being developed at the same time as Superion 256.

IonQ also announced the following.

• A partnership with Congruity360 to focus on quantum-safe protection.
• A paper on breaking 256-bit elliptic-curve signatures.
• SkyWater plans to launch quantum technologies to multiple customers and a deal with Qolab.
