Nvidia contributes rack, tray designs to OCP
Nvidia contributed architecture designs to the Open Compute Project sand announced that Meta will adopt Nvidia Spectrum-6 networking. Nvidia also announced collaborations with Google as well as Cisco.
Here's a roundup of what Nvidia announced:
- Nvidia said Meta will adopt Nvidia Spectrum-6 networking for its Vera Rubin AI factories running on an Open Compute Project (OCP) stack
- Cisco and Nvidia outlined a 400G optical module.
- The company said it will open its Vera Rubin architecture, including rack and tray designs, to OCP.
- Nvidia said its Vera CPU MGX rack is shipping now for AI agent workloads.
- Google's Falcon transport comes to Nvidia networking with interoperability across Spectrum-X SuperNICs and BlueField DPUs.
Nvidia makes case AI factories, its stack are enduring capital assets
On an industry analyst call, Joe DeLaere, senior manager of AI factory at Nvidia, said the contribution of Vera Rubin platform rack and tray designs cover power, cooling and mechanicals across multiple areas.
He added that the compute tray being contributed to OCP has no cables, hoses or fans and everything is liquid cooled and modular. The goal is to speed up adoption of AI factories and the broader ecosystems.
"Everything we're contributing comes from many generations of product experience across the entire stack. And overall, these contributions help the ecosystem accelerate AI factory buildouts," said DeLaere.
Nvidia's bet is that contributing more to open standards enables the AI ecosystem to focus on building their supply chains instead of focusing on any one proprietary design.
