Anthropic confidentially files for IPO
Anthropic and OpenAI are racing each other to become publicly traded companies. Anthropic said it has confidentially filed to go public with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The news comes as Anthropic's latest funding round gave it a valuation near $1 trillion. OpenAI, per The Wall Street Journal, is looking to file for an IPO confidentially.
Here's the reality: There's only so much capital to go around and there are three IPOs expected to top $1 trillion in valuation. SpaceX's IPO is likely to go first and being No. 3 isn't a good option for raising capital and both Anthropic and OpenAI require massive amounts of funding.
For now, we'll await the real numbers that'll be in a Form S-1. Here's what Anthropic said in a statement:
"Today, Anthropic, PBC confidentially submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of our common stock. This gives us the option to go public after the SEC completes its review. The proposed initial public offering will depend on market conditions and other factors.
The number of shares to be offered and the price have not yet been set. This announcement is being published under Rule 135 of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended. It is not an offer to sell securities; nor is it a solicitation of an offer to buy them. Any offers, solicitations of offers to buy, or any sales of securities will be made only in accordance with the registration requirements of the Securities Act."
