AMD said it has sold ZT Systems' manufacturing systems to Sanmina, a contract equipment manufacturer, in a deal valued at $3 billion in cash and stock.

The chipmaker acquired ZT Systems last year for $4.9 billion. When AMD acquired ZT Systems it said the deal was about acquiring talent and expertise in designing next-generation data centers and that it would sell the manufacturing business.

AMD retains ZD Systems' AI infrastructure design and customer enablement business that will focus on cloud customers. As part of the deal, Sanmina will become a preferred new product introduction manufacturing partner for AMD's cloud rack and cluster-scale AI hardware

Jure Sola, CEO of Sanmina, said that ZT Systems' liquid cooling hardware and AI infrastructure experience will complement its portfolio.

The deal is expected to close by the end of 2025.
