How One Organization Tackled Mobile Device Security
In this Report, WinShuttle’s Director of IT, Austin Biery, discusses the process of researching, understanding and then implementing a solution that enables WinShuttle employees to connect with the company network with their personally owned mobile devices, while simultaneously preserving corporate security for IT. In the process, WinShuttle confirmed that Mr. Biery’s initial concern about mobile device security was correct – yet was relatively easy (as well as inexpensive) to resolve, with minimal owner/user discomfort via a third-party solution.
WinShuttle, headquartered in Bothell, WA, provides software products that assist businesses to work with SAP applications. Currently employing about 200 people, WinShuttle is growing fast and supports customers from multiple offices located in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and India. Many of its employees are mobile and technically literate; as such they use a broad variety of devices. Most of these devices are not provided by WinShuttle but are bought by those employees, who then wish to connect them to WinShuttle’s IT systems. To ensure that company data is not compromised by these devices, WinShuttle engaged in a trial and subsequent implementation of a secure solution addressing mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
