Dashboards are no longer the center of gravity for analytics and BI. Forward- looking platforms are evolving into AI-powered decision intelligence environments designed to help users ask better questions, interpret business signals, explain performance changes, and evaluate next-best decisions from governed data.

This Constellation ShortList identifies vendors delivering the next generation of augmented analytics and BI: platforms that combine governed natural language interfaces, semantic and metrics consistency, predictive modeling, automated insight discovery, and guided what-if analysis. These systems help business users and analysts move beyond static reporting toward trusted, explainable, and collaborative decision support.

Typical use cases include a sales leader investigating pipeline slippage with AI-generated driver analysis, a finance team exploring budget anomalies and simulating likely outcomes, or a business user querying governed data in plain English and receiving contextual explanations tied to approved metrics, definitions, and business logic, to triggering downstream actions directly from insight.

New to this year’s evaluation are expanded criteria around AI-ready semantic layers, runtime-governed conversational analytics, answer explainability, analyst-to-business collaboration, and decision workspaces in addition to agentic orchestration. These changes reflect a market shift from AI-assisted dashboards toward trusted AI analytics environments that ground GenAI in governed context, validate answers, help enterprises improve decision velocity without sacrificing control, and operational integration as GenAI scales from analysts to business users across the enterprise.

Changes to the Shortlist are new additions Google Looker/BigQuery, Pyramid Analytics (ServiceNow) and Sigma, who benefited from the shift of analytics towards data platforms, governed semantics, decision support, and insight explainability.

Threshold Criteria

Constellation considers the following criteria for these solutions:

• Governed AI-powered search and conversational analytics allowing users to ask business questions in natural language and get answers grounded in approved data, permissions, metrics, and business definitions, with tools to review, validate, and audit generated responses and user feedback.
• Integration with or provision of a semantic layer that supports business-specific definitions, metrics, hierarchies, and contextualized answers for analytics and GenAI
• Explainable insights that show trends, anomalies, and drivers/ contributing factors to show what changed, why it changed, and which follow-up analyses to use.
• Predictive and “what-if” analysis for forecasting, scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and simulation to evaluate risks, tradeoffs, and likely future performance
• AI-assisted analytics preparation including guided data discovery, profiling, joins, enrichment, cleansing, and model or metric suggestions that help analysts and business users prepare trusted data for analysis.
• Context-aware decision support that uses role, permissions, business context, usage patterns, metric trends, and user intent to recommend relevant insights, nextbest analytical steps, or decision options.
• Governed analytics collaboration that helps analysts and business users explore, validate, and share insights to support better decisions.
• Insight orchestration and agentic workflows that suggest or initiate multi-step actions in response to insights, based on role, context, and narrative logic, with inline delivery.
