AMD said Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of its MI450X GPUs in Helios rack systems starting in 2027 and collaborate on using Claude to optimize workloads. AMD will also invest $5 billion in Anthropic.

For AMD, the Anthropic deal follows a similar partnership for Helios with Microsoft Azure.

AMD launched its Helios integrated AI rack systems that include GPUs, EPYC server CPUs, networking and the chipmaker's ROCm software. Helios goes head to head with Nvidia's integrated AI systems.

Key items in the AMD-Anthropic partnership include:

  • Anthropic will deploy AMD Helios systems that include AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs, AMD Pensando networking and ROCm software. Anthropic has already deployed AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs.
  • The two companies will collaborate to use Claude to accelerate AMD software development. Claude will be used to optimize workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and ROCm development. AMD will use Claude across its development teams.
  • AMD will invest up to $5 billion in the future.
