Bio

Chris Heck serves as vice president and chief information officer for Duke Energy. He is responsible for IT strategy, operations, architecture, and the delivery and support of IT applications across the company.

Previously, Heck served as managing director of IT operations and infrastructure for Duke Energy, a position he held since 2007. He was responsible for PCs, data centers, server and mainframe computing platforms, and mobile device operations. Prior to that, he led IT strategy and compliance for the company, which included architecture, security, sourcing strategy and the Project Management Office (PMO).

Heck began his career with the company in 1983 as a programmer in the information services department. In 1987, he joined the marketing and rates department as an analyst programmer. After a series of leadership roles in power delivery and information management, Heck was named division manager of operations workstation services and support in the corporate resources group in 2000. He served as director of operations for DukeNet Communications in 2002 and vice president of sales and marketing in 2003, where he was responsible for managing the sales force marketing group, as well as business development. During 2005, Heck led the PMO for the Duke Energy/Cinergy merger integration effort. In this role, he was responsible for the successful integration of the two IT organizations, including detailed three-year plans for replacing the IT platform in order to meet the scalability and cost-saving goals of the new company. He assumed his current position in August 2014.

Heck graduated cum laude from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and received a Master of Computer Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
