Micky Tripathi is the Mayo Clinic Chief Artificial Intelligence Implementation Officer (CAIO). He leads AI governance and the safe and effective adoption of AI into the Practice to enhance patient outcomes and reduce administrative workload, working across the Mayo enterprise with Research, Education, and the Mayo Clinic Platform, and with AI industry leaders and government agencies. Dr. Tripathi has over two decades of experience in health technology leadership. His expertise spans public and private sectors in strategy, product development, and operations, and he has a proven track record in leading large-scale health information technology projects and fostering public and private collaborations.

Previously serving as the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP), National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at the US Department of Health and Human Services, he oversaw nationwide clinical data standards, health IT policies, interoperability, health AI regulations, and HHS AI adoption. His work established nationwide data and interoperability standards across all HHS divisions and over 500 EHR products, impacting 97% of hospitals and 78% of physician offices. As the HHS’s chief AI officer, he developed AI transparency and risk management regulations for over 900 certified EHR developers and vetted and approved all AI applications in HHS.

Dr. Tripathi draws from deep and broad academic and professional experience in economics, political science, business strategy, and public policy. He was a manager at the Boston Consulting Group, a US Presidential Management Fellow with the US Air Force, and a senior operations research analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC, for which he received the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Medal. He holds a PhD in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University, and an AB in political science from Vassar College.
