Constellation Research's 2026 AI Survey
Executive Summary
The AI experimentation phase is over. In 2026, AI is becoming part of the enterprise operating infrastructure. The question is no longer whether to use AI, but where to deploy it, which models to use, and how to manage the economics and risk.
Adoption is spreading across back-office operations, productivity, IT, customer-facing work, andincreasingly agentic workflows. Organizations are also taking a hybrid approach, combining packaged applications, cloud services, and different model types. That creates a new operating challenge: getting the right AI capability to the right task at the right cost.
But adoption is moving faster than organizational readiness. Data quality remains a major constraint, while talent, process debt, trust, and governance continue to shape what can actually scale. As AI takes on more work, the scarce resource shifts from execution to judgment.
The next phase of enterprise AI is about decision velocity, model routing, learning loops, and human judgment. The winners will not simply deploy more AI. They will build the operating model to make AI work
