Qualcomm said it will acquire Alphawave IP Group, a UK company, for $2.4 billion in a move that will give it assets to speed up its data center expansion.
The purchase will give Qualcomm IP in high-speed connectivity and compute for its Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors. In May, Qualcomm outlined its data center CPU efforts and said it will connect with Nvidia's NVLink Fusion initiative.
Qualcomm said it can bring low-power inferencing to data centers as well as custom processors for AI workloads.
Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, said Alphawave will bring complementary technology for its CPUs and NPUs. "The combined teams share the goal of building advanced technology solutions and enabling next-level connected computing performance across a wide array of high growth areas, including data center infrastructure," said Amon.
The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.
