The Problem

MEDHOST was looking to create a new, innovative, end-to-end health and wellness solution to increase patient and consumer engagement. The vision was to create a compelling, online healthcare “home” for patients and consumers, aggregating educational information, wellness information (e.g. data from consumer health devices), medical records and more.  The cornerstone of the vision was a robust healthcare information website, YourCareEverywhere (YCE), and corresponding mobile app.  From a technology perspective, the goal was to create a dynamic foundation for the site that enabled personalized experiences and could scale to house tens of thousands of articles and images, as well as a wide range of healthcare tools. The new site would provide personalized health and wellness content to patients connecting through the MEDHOST patient portal, as well as any consumer looking to improve his or her health, through an easy-to-access and convenient process. The problem was, MEDHOST needed to assemble the right technology and resources that could support this ambitious initiative.

The Solution

Through YourCareEverywhere, MEDHOST wanted to expand the traditional patient portal experience and provide hospital customers a way to engage their patients with a unique, co-branded, robust online experience, with the goal of keeping current patients loyal, while also attracting new healthcare consumers in the community. MEDHOST also wanted to offer a valuable healthcare resource that all consumers could easily access on any device—desktop or mobile. To build the solution, they partnered with VML, a full service digital marketing agency.  Through collaboration with VML, and leveraging Adobe Experience Manager (the underlying content management and delivery technology), MEDHOST created the YourCareEverywhere health and wellness content site and the YourCareEverywhere mobile app.

The results

The combination of MEDHOST, VML and Adobe Experience Manager laid the foundation for a highly successful launch of the YourCareEverywhere site, achieving a rapid rollout of the comprehensive solution in just three months. The solution is unique in the market given the combination of robust content, wellness data and information, medical records (lab results, etc.) and a mobile app. These elements, combined with a hospital’s ability to co-brand the site and app, make for a very compelling offering and few competitive solutions exist.

YourCareEverywhere benefits MEDHOST’s hospital customers, patients of the hospitals and any consumer looking to improve his or her health. All MEDHOST customers, which include approximately 1,000 hospitals nationwide, now have a way to offer branded online experiences that not only provide patients with secure, authenticated access to healthcare information through the MEDHOST patient portal, but also offer patients content tailored to their health interests.

Further, by leveraging AEM, more customized page content can be presented automatically to individuals; consumers interested in diet and exercise might see more articles and ads on fitness, whereas users with allergies would see articles on allergy treatments. To further round out the solution, the YourCareEverywhere site also aggregates consumer health information from a number of sources and devices, including wearables such as Fitbit and Jawbone.

Metrics

With the YCE solution, MEDHOST now has a differentiated product in the market versus the competition, namely other more narrowly focused consumer content sites.  Specific metrics are just now coming in given the solution’s recent launch, but initial traffic, interest from advertisers and consumer registrations have exceeded initial goals.  50 facilities have chosen to link their patient portal to YCE, as well as have custom facility profile pages on YCE, in the first 90 days post launch.  

The Technology

MEDHOST chose Adobe Experience Manager as the underlying software to support a service-oriented architecture, integrate with third-party systems and to ensure content was manageable, accessible, portable and searchable. MEDHOST also wanted to segment and personalize user experiences based on factors such as geography, seasonality, interests and user authentication. The software was the right choice for the YCE solution based on its depth of functionality and scalability.

Disruptive Factor

The YCE solution is disruptive due to its innovative approach to consumer and patient engagement.  When consumers/patients own their health and wellness, a positive ripple effect is felt throughout the healthcare system.   YourCareEverywhere is more than just a content site, more than just an app. It is a connected tool for wellness, medical records, content, all wrapped up in Meaningful Use (government program for electronic health records) certified mobile app. Few solutions exist that can claim the same features and functionality.  This evergreen solution for aggregating personal health and wellness data, inspires site participants to share content, facilitates a two-way conversation between patients and providers through the patient portal, seamlessly integrates and provides access to personal wellness information, aggregates device and app-recorded health activity data and stores secure health information in a unified experience. Single sign-on provides ease of access across all data platforms. Further, the YourCareEverywhere site is fully responsive and optimized for desktops, smartphones and tablets. 

Shining Moment

MEDHOST brought YourCareEverywhere from concept to live in less than four months. Once the site was launched it was rapidly adopted by both consumers and healthcare facilities, with approximately 50 facilities linking their patient portal in the first 90 days. The speed of deployment across devices and positive response is validation that a robust integrated, health and wellness platform is valuable for all healthcare constituents.
