The Problem

Mounting EU regulations such as the CSRD and new customer mandates require audited, product-level carbon-emission data. Manually collecting and calculating these figures would have demanded huge effort, duplicated systems, and added no direct value to the parts themselves.

The Solution

Boers & Co upgraded to Epicor Kinetic 2025.1 and activated the new Carbon Cost Roll-up module, which treats carbon as a secondary “currency” that flows through the same bill-of-materials and routing cost engine used for financial costing. Real-time emission factors, such as electricity-grid intensity and shipping lanes, are pulled automatically via Epicor’s embedded Climatiq integration, eliminating spreadsheets and manual look-ups.

The results

Before the upgrade, carbon-footprint numbers needed to be generated manually by exporting production data into a standalone calculator, which meant customers waited more weeks or months for emission information. Since Carbon Cost Roll-up went live, the footprint of every part is computed automatically during the routine cost-roll-up process and is printed on shipping paperwork, so each order now arrives with its verified CO₂-equivalent value. The automation allowed Boers & Co to meet EU CSRD product-level reporting requirements two years ahead of schedule, and it has also removed roughly eight engineer-hours of manual data gathering every week, freeing that time for process optimisation.

Metrics

The implementation accelerated the achievement of our carbon objectives by two full years. Today 100 percent of manufactured parts can leave the factory with certified CO₂e data on their invoices and packing slips.  By embedding carbon calculations directly in the ERP’s cost-roll-up, the project eliminates roughly half of the full-time-equivalent of human administrative effort that was previously spent gathering and validating emissions data. In addition, an auditor-ready life-cycle-emission report that previously took days to compile can now be produced in minutes.

Disruptive Factor

Most companies need to bolt separate sustainability apps onto their ERP systems, but Boers & Co achieved the reverse thanks to carbon accounting being built into the Epicor’s ordinary cost engine. Every time the system runs its material-requirements planning (MRP) routine —the step that breaks a sales order into all the parts and raw materials it will need — it now calculates the carbon footprint right alongside the financial cost. Because the calculation piggybacks on an existing process, employees needed no retraining and the project went live in weeks instead of months. Keeping everything in one system eliminates integration headaches and gives finance and sustainability teams a single source of truth.

Shining Moment

Boers & Co is most proud that it can now generate certified, product-level carbon footprints directly inside Epicor Kinetic without extra spreadsheets or add-on tools, making real-time CO₂e data available to engineers, finance and customers in a single click.
