The Problem

The aviation industry is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic sectors of business, and SpiceJet is no exception to that. With our workforce being spread across more than 30 locations a variety of workers including pilots, cabin crew, ground staff, administrative staff and more, scheduling and attendance tracking proved to be a challenge that only became worse with COVID.

 

We had no prior HR software in place for the company, so most of our processes were done manually. These manual processes were error prone, and we were unable to track attendance at all so there was no coherent idea when employees were clocking in or out for the day which led to inaccurate information. Tracking employees' vacation time and onboarding new hires was also difficult without the right software and processes.

The Solution

We needed a HR solution that would seamlessly adapt to our business processes without causing any major disruptions to our system while creating a unified experience that would integrate easily with other solutions. Zoho People proved to be comprehensive and was a solution built with both HR professionals and employees in mind, which allowed us to onboard employees and managers with no struggle while providing a solution that could grow along with our company and the industry's ever-changing needs. Zoho People gave us an end-to-end automated HR management resource, that allowed us to improve efficiency across our various departments and reduced our dependency on other tools.

The results

We are solving some of our most pressing issues with Zoho People. Before, our processes were prone to human error, and it proved to be difficult to ensure accuracy. Our HR team was constantly having to deal with handling these manual processes and had minimal time to focus on any other projects. Our small HR team benefited from the software as they were now able to have everyone's information in one place and no longer had to rely on manual processes. It facilitated the management of processes like attendance, onboarding, and even employee exit to become a seamless experience which also led to our HR team being able to spend more time on other projects.

 

Zoho People corrected our system, allowing us to be precise across all levels of necessary approvals and regulations. This system correction also allowed for better visibility into working hours and absence balances of employees. It improved the HR experience for our employees as they were now able to track working hours, absence balance, and apply for leave all from mobile phones no matter where they were located. Zoho People simplified shift and attendance management for a dispersed workforce like ours. Through this self-service, our employees were able to improve communication due to being able to track everything through the Zoho People portal which led to a happier employee experience, and overall a better customer experience since our employees were able to communicate more with the customers.

Metrics

Before implementing Zoho People as our HR solution, most all HR processes were done manually. Since Zoho People was deployed, we have been able to enhance employee experience and measure success across more than 30 locations. Zoho People improved certain experiences as well for our 12,000 employees, since even employees are now able to track their own working hours, request leave, and manage other HR needs from their mobile devices.

 

Zoho People offered an end-to-end automated HR management that was a unified experience leading to improved efficiency in the company along with a reduction in dependency on other tools and resources. We were able to 100% customize and automate our processes to fit our policies with all required approvals, notifications and customizations.

The Technology

Zoho People is used to efficiently track employee attendance, absence leave, onboarding and much more in the HR sector. Employees are also now able to keep track of their own progress through their mobile devices so they can keep up with their work no matter where they are since their whole experience exists within Zoho.

Disruptive Factor

The implementation of Zoho People was done systematically, making sure that every requirement was met before moving on to the next step. Implementation is still going as we continue to implement new features and customizations to enhance the HR solution to fit our needs. With almost 12,000 employees that are scattered across 30 locations, we were able to create a seamless employee experience for everyone despite where their job was located or what their job entailed.

Shining Moment

SpiceHealth, our health care company, has been active in fighting against COVID in India. Since we launched this past November, we have conducted more than 2.2 million RCT-PCR tests across five states. We were the first to introduce mobile testing labs to be placed in remote areas, and supplied thousands of SpiceOxy ventilators to different governments. Our cargo division of SpiceJet, SpiceXpress, won multiple Inflection Awards, including the Covid-19 Hero of the Year- Logistics (Air) Award.
