pZebra technologies builds enterprise class data and auto-identification devices that empower those on the front line. If you watch closely, you will find our devices in use everyday – the ubiquitous barcodes on products, scanners at your checkout, mobile devices confirming package delivery, RFID solutions that track the movement of players in the NFL and the list goes on./p pMost of the large retailers, transportation and logistics companies, manufacturing and healthcare companies are Zebra’s customers. A large percentage of fortune 500 companies in these key industries use Zebra’s products. We are a global company and we operate in over 100 countries. We primarily sell through our channel partners./p

The Problem

pBack in 2014, Zebra acquired Motorola’s enterprise solutions business. With that we had legacy systems that had to be quickly integrated and the focus was to be operational using systems that were available at that time. While we were very successful in integrating the companies, our customer surveys indicated that/p ol liOur data was dispersed in several different systems/li liThe user experience was poor/li liOlder systems were riddled with performance issues/li /ol pAs an example, our content was held in different systems – product marketing bulletins, spec sheets, product literature was held in a custom website. Videos, images and other key product content was held our Digital Asset Management system – Abobe AEM. Our core product catalog and configurator was another tool called solution builder that ran on IBM CPQ. Our ordering portal was another separate tool that had it’s own catalog and ran on Siebel./p pOur partners, internal sales users and our end customers all of them were being impacted and we saw the need to transform and move to a better platform that could create a seamless experience for our users. /p

The Solution

pWe quickly concluded that building custom solutions was off the table, we are not in the business of creating CPQ or ecommerce solutions or competing with companies that have billions of dollars of investments made in this space. Our solution was to use Oracle commerce cloud as the central application to consolidate the user experience. The packaged integration with CPQ was seamless. We also integrated to our digital asset management tool – AEM and therefore were able to consolidate the user experience. We call our solution "Solutions Pathway" is the single, one-stop shop website for all types of data and content./p pThe home page with configurable widgets shows product and marketing content, we can push recently launched and featured products as needed. Product search and getting to the right information quickly had proved to be difficult in the past but OCC’s search capabilities and the boost and bury capabilities have proved to be very useful. /p

The results

pWe used a PIM to consolidate data and push it into Oracle Commerce Cloud. We do a real-time API call using OIC into our Oracle e-Business suite application to provide the latest available to promise dates. Ordering is now in the same platform as the product catalog and configurator and the B2B cart works very well. CPQ drives Pricing and CPQ is able to compute a discount using a complex discount structure in less than 2 milliseconds. Quoting is integrated via CPQ to Salesforce.com opportunities./p p /p p /p

Metrics

pThe main reason we implemented this solution was to improve customer satisfaction and modernize our e-commerce capability. Feedback from our formal and informal customer surveys post-implementation has been very positive. We have seen increased usage of the new portal – almost 20% more users are now logging in and using the system on a regular basis./p

Disruptive Factor

pWe are also exploring options to use Oracle’s subscription cloud to offer our customers more choices with how they purchase Zebra’s products. As Zebra evolves, we have more solutions and services including data services and software. These offerings need to be sold as subscriptions rather than as standard SKU’s. So Zebra is in the process of looking at subscription solutions that work with our e-commerce and CPQ platform./p
