The Problem

TRACT is a scalable and highly configurable monetization platform that helps customers rapidly launch new products and services and maximize recurring and consumption revenue. Its ability to manage billions of usage events, translate them into charges and collect the revenue for companies monetizing Internet of Things (IoT), Over-The-Top (OTT) and Anything-as-a-Service (XaaS) is second to none. As a result of goTransverse’s tremendous growth, the company needed an analytics and reporting platform that would scale with the business and its customers’ business complexity. The company needed a platform that would improve data reliability and access, reporting and ETL processing times as well as an overall improvement to the user experience. goTransverse needed the right technology to make analytics, reporting and customer insights a signature strength of its award-winning TRACT platform.

The Solution

Today’s leading businesses use information to provide better customer service, identify patterns and trends and launch new services. Our customers needed complete visibility into the subscription and usage lifecycle, and we knew we needed to make business analytics, reporting and actionable insights faster and easier to manage. Partnering with Pentaho was an obvious choice. 

The TRACT platform utilizes an operational database and a data warehouse for analytics and reporting. By using Pentaho data integration, we’re able to populate that data warehouse with an easy-to-use ETL design. TRACT users are able to seamlessly transition between TRACT and Pentaho using single sign-on, and the look and feel allows for a consistent brand experience across the two platforms. This integration gives our end customers powerful insights into their subscriber base.

The results

As mentioned, the growth of goTransverse’s customer base as well as those customers’ rapid growth required improvements to our insights, analytics and reporting engine. Since the implementation, we’ve seen dramatically improved reporting performance, data consistency and accuracy—key factors for a billing application that processes millions of transactions on a daily basis. We can now offer powerful business intelligence capabilities, a much more robust out-of-the-box catalog of reports (developed in a fraction of the time of the preceding engine) and a significantly enhanced and simplified ad hoc reporting functionality via Pentaho. 

Customers are now able to easily and reliably connect the dots between millions of usage data points, particularly those working with connected devices, and triangulate with account, subscriber, and even demographical data. Being able to identify usage patterns and trends is just the tip of the iceberg. The ability to then monetize these trends with different pricing strategies, support real-time decision making and dynamically build packages and bundles directly helps drive future growth in our customers’ businesses.

The quantifiable ROI metrics generated by the Pentaho project include:

Disruptive Factor

In addition to the improved reporting performance, data consistency and accuracy, the biggest impact we’ve see has been with our customers.  

From an end-user perspective, customers have access to a host of standard reports focused on key business metrics including monthly recurring revenue, churn rates, cross-sell and up-sell revenue and customer life-time value. Building new ad-hoc reports requires no programming or database knowledge. This provides full visibility into usage data and revenue streams without needing IT. Dashboards are seamlessly embedded and configurable in TRACT, allowing the user to have a consistent look and feel thanks to Pentaho’s APIs. 

This is particularly important for customers in emerging markets such as IoT who need access to this type of reporting data to identify trends, develop new product and service offerings and monetize them quickly. In IoT, being able to monetize data is what sets apart businesses from hobbies. Through this integration, we’ve been able to help our customers turn their service offerings into real profit. 

Shining Moment

Our TRACT platform received three of the top independent awards for software companies worldwide. It was selected as Best IoT Solution for the SIIA CODiE Awards, providing an incredible validation by the only peer-recognized award program in the content, education and software industries. TRACT also received a Pipeline Innovation Award in the Innovations in the Telecom Business Support Systems category as well as a Bronze Stevie Award in the Most Innovative Tech Company of the Year category
