The Problem
National Crime Check initially had a B2B business model focused on enabling their customers to meet mandatory police check requirements. Before National Crime Check, this process was a huge administrative burden for companies and National Crime Check was determined to offer an automated solution that would help streamline processes for employers.
In an effort to apply the best of breed technology, National Crime Check undertook an exhaustive process of researching ID verification solutions, given that ID verification is arguably one of the most important steps in the process. A key requirement was identifying a solution that would help to provide an excellent customer experience, while achieving the goal of delivering an automated process that was accessible online 100 percent of the time. This goal required ID and document authentication, not just verification. Authentication added the critical factor of establishing that the person conducting the transaction was, in fact, that person.
The Solution
National Crime Check identified the problem by outlining the core factors the company needed in an identity verification and authentication technology: the solution needed to provide an excellent customer experience—as National Crime Check’s customers would be using the technology in a very hands-on and highly active way—and the solution needed to deliver an automated process that was not only reliable, but also accessible online 100 percent of the time. With these requirements in mind, National Crime Check tapped Jumio’s Netverify® with Face Match technology to achieve this goal.
The results
National Crime Check turned to Jumio’s Netverify® with Face Match to help the company further differentiate and gain efficiencies in an increasingly competitive market. Netverify provides ID document scanning and verification technology enabling a person to scan their documents directly from any PC or mobile phone. For National Crime Check, being able to provide end users with the flexibility to use multiple platforms—PC, tablet, or mobile smartphone—was a big plus. Whereas police checks might once have involved posting forms and copies of ID, Netverify allows people to complete a check from home or on-the-go.
In addition, Jumio’s Face Match technology added an additional level of security by providing face matching with liveness detection. Customers are asked to present a government issue photo ID— driver’s license or passport—and Jumio compares the photo to the customer’s actual face. Liveness detection ensures that the person is actually present when submitting a photo for Face Match by detecting even the slightest facial movement.
Metrics
By integrating Jumio’s Netverify technology, the process is more automated and secure and documents are not lost in transit. In fact, they have virtually eliminated any manual entry or paper processes for businesses, saving on administration costs and overhead. In most cases, the old process took one week and required significant involvement from users to obtain documents and get them certified.
An industry disruptor, National Crime Check continues to set record growth with over 30% uptake from the website. They are far ahead of the game, adding new markets and expanding product offerings, including complimentary checking services such as credit and bankruptcy checks.
Over 4 million annual police checks are done in Australia. National Crime Check has the goal to capture over 10 percent of the market in five years, and is currently working on international expansion of their services.
The process is now more efficient and customers are more informed throughout. As a result, National Crime Check has made mandatory police checks a closed loop process.
