The Problem
Simply put, we wanted to be more efficient with our daily work, and increase our teams’ alignment. Although we had been using goal setting and setting OKRs (objective key result) for over a year, and we’re hyper-focused on the right things, at the end of our day our workflow tool fell short. We would see parallel teams working towards one goal, resulting in duplicated efforts and hours. We needed greater continuity to make agile decisions in today’s fast-paced business environment.
While our team was focused on goals, we also recognized the need to take the time to reflect and celebrate progress and achievements. In our fast-paced business, we were almost too focused on overcoming the next big hurdle, and lacked a process for appreciating the journey we were on. Because of a lack of retrospection around our accomplishments, we weren’t recognizing individual employees’ achievements for their role in that journey often enough. One of our core values is to Be Awesome, and we really wanted a tool and a process to help us build that in at an enterprise level.
The Solution
Our team, especially our CEO, lives and breathes organizational and operational excellence, philosophically and practically. We spotted gaps in inefficiency, transparency & alignment and knew we had to commit to a more structured, technology-driven process if we wanted to continue to grow and scale our work.
We needed to find a technology provider that was more than just a provider of an agile tool.We were looking for a true partner that was like-minded and could guide us through OKRs and quarterly planning but actually give us the insights to make changes. We set out to find a technology platform & a partner that could help us accomplish big goals, while fitting in seamlessly with our company culture. We were ultimately attracted to BetterWorks, software for goals & feedback, because they are like us. BetterWorks, as a team & as a tool, could push us, while complementing but never compromising our core values.
The results
Our business has completely transformed the home security industry, so we needed a technology partner that would enable us to think and dream big. The implementation of BetterWorks supports our core values, and is enabling us to problem solve to get the results and innovation we’re constantly striving for. BetterWorks brings greater focus our team, letting us work on a select 3-5 things with that greater alignment we needed.. BetterWorks adds layers of transparency throughout our entire organization, so we can work more collaboratively together. For example, I saw that our Director of Customer Care and Director of Fulfillment each set goals to develop leadership programs for their respective teams. I had already done this across the team I lead, and was able to get instant insight into the projects they were prioritizing for the quarter, and provide materials that served as a starting point. Before BetterWorks, we had limited ways to see overlap, or gaps in particular areas of the team. Now, we frequently and quickly spot areas where we might be unnecessarily doubling up, focusing and centering us as a team while helping us save time and resources.

Disruptive Factor
Our approach to bringing more transparency and alignment to our workforce is to be smart, not just fast. Seventy-five percent of our workforce is frontline, working with customers day in and day out. We’re taking a test-and-learn approach to what makes sense for our high-growth company so we can push boundaries without disrupting our customer experience promise.
In future months, we’ll continue scaling our use of BetterWorks. We have a core group leveraging it now, so we have to keep them “sharpening their pencils,” so to speak, while also adding people in successfully. We will have to consistently use it and set expectations for transparency around goal-setting within Frontpoint. We’re not about moving fast and breaking stuff-- we’re aiming to create a focused and transparent company culture for the long haul.
We’re changing the status quo within our industry on many levels--what has set our company apart from the competition for nearly a decade is our ability to innovate beyond the competition. With BetterWorks, we’re adding vigor and focus to that ability, helping us to outpace the competition. On a bigger level, in today’s economy, all employers around the world are tasked with doing more with less. We’re setting the bar for using our time and resources wisely by partnering with BetterWorks to stay focused on the things that matter the most, and the projects that are going to move the needle for us.
Shining Moment
It’s inspiring to see how many conversations are sparked just because we added greater transparency to our workflow. Employees are asking more about what teams are doing cross-functionally and seeking out opportunities to more effectively collaborate. Employees say things like “hey I didn't know you were working on that, I’ve been curious about that for a year, can I join in.” Employees are owning their work, more proud of their work and want to work as a team.
