The Problem
Molly currently has a summer intern, Abby. She is 16, Hispanic, bilingual and aspires to be a Pediatric Oncologist. She is from our Urban school district. Quite frankly, when she came in to talk to us, we had low expectations due to her age and her background. She astounded Molly and team with her poise, education, communication (she is a better interview than many others I do for much larger jobs.) She actually starts college this fall and will graduate at 18 with an associate’s degree and her high school diploma. Molly had her do a video interview and sent it to all of our C-Level executives to review to see what experiences and mentors and other resources we could provide her with. They were all impressed and we are now moving forward with that.
Molly and her project specialist then met with Abby’s school sponsor from the Kansas City Missouri District that face extraordinarily troubled district that is currently unaccredited with multiple challenges.
The Solution
Launched - Introduce Yourself
Molly and team are currently Internally working on capturing all of their interns and summer volunteers and intend to track them, see if we can offer resources or additional support (scholarships, etc.) and help them achieve their goals.
There are several programs out there that could provide us (and other companies) good talent if we can just keep them going. Molly is looking at digital interviewing (HireVue) that would allow them to send the student’s videos out to companies to match them with.
The results
Two hires have resulted in this program already. It is still in infancy stages, however the value and impact to the community and the students that will benefit from this, will allow organizations to make sound decisions and quality candidate matches that meet their business objectives.
